Bord Bia‘s latest PERIscope study findings has shown that children in Ireland are bringing healthier lunch boxes to school.
The PERIscope study looks at Irish consumers’ behaviour and attitudes towards cooking, eating at home, grocery shopping, local food, health and wellbeing. It also compares our attitudes with 10,000 respondents in nine other countries, including Britain, Australia, New Zealand and six other continental European countries.
When it came to children’s packed lunches, the study found that although lunch box staples such as sandwiches, fruit and yoghurt were similar between Ireland and Britain, the big difference noted was the inclusion of crisps as a snack. Crisps appeared in only 5% of lunch boxes here, compared with 46% in Britain.
This substantial difference is attributed to the increasing emphasis on healthy eating policies in Irish schools.
