15 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby is gaining weight rapidly right now and their brain is stimulating all the major muscles: the arms can bend from the wrist and elbow; the fingers can curl and make fists.
You’ll also be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat when you go to your antenatal appointments, with the doppler device. It might also be possible to see what gender the baby is on an ultrasound, but this is by no means a given. Your 20-week scan will give you a clearer idea if you really do want to know the sex of your baby.
You’ll hopefully be experiencing the bloom of the second trimester now, where you feel more energetic and lively. Your libido might even have returned at 15 weeks pregnant too – some women find that it even increases during this time. Unless your doctor has advised you otherwise (if you’ve had bleeding, for example, or a low-lying placenta), sex is perfectly safe during pregnancy and doesn’t harm the baby.
Food for thought
Essential fatty acids, or EFAs, are important for babies’ developing brains. Oily fish, such as mackerel, herring, salmon, sardines, and kippers are rich sources of these fatty acids. You should try to eat oily fish two to three times a week.
Tip of the week
At 15 weeks pregnant, you should be thinking about your birth plan. If you’d like to have a home birth, there are several factors to take into consideration before you make your final decision.
