Your Pregnancy Cravings
In early pregnancy, you may find that you experience cravings for particular foods or non-food substances. Pregnancy cravings are normal during pregnancy; in fact, as many as half of all women will crave some type of cuisine or unusual food product during pregnancy.
The most popular cravings include sweet and salty foods, while other women report craving spicy or fatty foods.
While there appears to be no real scientific reason for this, some experts believe that certain cravings may be significant. For example, it is believed among some alternative medicine practitioners that a craving for chocolate may be caused by a lack of vitamin B. Some expectant women may need more essential sugars in their diet and by increasing their intake of flax oil, their food cravings can disappear.
Pregnancy cravings are usually no cause for concern, unless they affect your health or are for inedible substances (a condition known as pica). For obvious reasons, you should try to avoid following up pica cravings.
