Are You Taking Part In The #MarathonInAMonth?
A few weeks ago, we put the call out for brave volunteers wishing to complete a #MarathonInAMonth in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. The Marathon In A Month aims to get people moving, while raising vital funds for The Irish Cancer Society; and 5 brave souls agreed to share their journey with us.
Each person is pushing themselves to complete the 42k distance in whatever way suits them best, whether walking, running, or jogging; throughout July. And now we'd like to introduce you to our participants, who are keeping us posted with their progress through Instagram and Twitter.
Beth signed up for the #marathoninamonth challenge this July to 'finally lose my baby weight (after 4 years!)' She recently gave up smoking and signed up to a fitness bootcamp; and since she has been considering running a marathon, this seemed a good place to start! As Beth says: "This one would be perfect as my first one because I have no idea how much it's going to hurt!” After the first week, she sent us this update:
"So far I have covered 11.2km & raised €131.07! ... I'm delighted with how well it's going so far! I've made so much progress by doing simple things such as walking a little bit further to a different coffee shop & the other day I walked 5km to get a coffee! I hope everyone else who is doing it is enjoying it as much as I am."

Jessica is a mum of two boys, aged 4, and 22 months. She started playing Gaelic football for a local team (St Mary's in Ardee, Co. Louth) in February; and recently got back into running competitively. She's also hoping to pass on her enthusiasm for health and nutrition to her sons, and others on the same journey:
"I have two small boys & we've been exploring lots of different healthy foods to help keep for fuelled for all the #marathoninamonth running; and the boys are loving all the new flavours. @jm_thehealthymamma is my Instagram name; I've been trying to get other people to follow me so I can encourage healthy eating and exercise. It's helping keep me motivated ... I've completed 30km so far!"

Stephen is a teacher from Roscommon. He's using the Irish Cancer Society's #marathoninamonth challenge as motivation to get out & about, rather than 'wasting the summer holidays sitting on the couch.' Luckily he has two sons and a dog to keep him company, who he hopes will join him for at least parts of the challenge:
"I have run 26km to date, and hope to complete 2 marathons by the end of the challenge. Really enjoying it! I'm finding it tough but very rewarding & have been joined by our dog on many of the runs. 🐶"

Niamh is a mom to 3 children; aged nine, seven and five. She took up the #marathoninamonth challenge to help stay motivated; as recently returning to work has meant she has even less time for regular exercise:
"It has become a bit of a family affair as my nine year old daughter has decided to join me! She is great for my motivation and I'm really enjoying having that special time with her ... We get such beautiful evenings here in Ireland that it has been easier to get up and go."
Sarah is a healthcare assistant, and mom to a 2 1/2 year old. She is using the challenge to build up her pace, while supporting Irish Cancer Society:
"I am doing the Irish Cancer Society's #marathoninamonth this July, for my friend’s mum who was just diagnosed with terminal cancer ... I walk most places with my son in his pram, but I took on a challenge to complete a #marathoninamonth to build up my running pace; and all for a good cause ."
