Holiday-Time-is-Family-Time

Holiday Time is Family Time

This month we surveyed our moms about their holiday plans and from the 2,776 responses received, one thing is clear – Summer holidays are all about family.

Spending precious time together as a family is the No1 reason why 75% of our moms are planning a Summer holiday.Trends towards wider family groups holidaying together

And for many of our members, it's also a time to reconnect with their wider families with a third of our moms telling us that they will spend holidays with grandparents, cousins and other family members.

Shorthaul all the way

Respondents range from first time pregnant to families with 4 kids but the insights are pretty consistent. A quarter will take their main holiday in Ireland, around 50% will visit a European country (including UK), a small percentage planning to travel outside the EU and remainder not planning any holiday this year.

Self-catering still strong

Wherever your destination, self-catering rentals are by far the most popular choice for families with 40% preference score. That's followed by hotels (booked as a package or separately) at 34%, camping or mobile homes at 9% and interestingly 14% are planning to stay with family or friends, bringing us back to the main theme from this survey.

Give me value and make my kids happy

Value for money is a key decider in selecting a family holiday with 72%, followed closely by facilities for children & families at 67%. Travel time/distance and weather featured in the mid-50%.

20% are already booked

Twenty per cent of our families have already booked their Summer holiday with 13% doing so in January and 7% having already booked it last year. A further 60% will book it in the next 2-3 months and only 20% will wait for last minute deals which is not surprising when you consider the organization involved in planning a family holiday, especially if grandparents and cousins are coming along too.

Planning together

Moms are usually the key decision-maker for virtually all aspects of family life but not so for holidays. 70% will decide jointly with their spouse or partner. Online research is by far the most popular source for planning holidays, with other options trailing well behind (33% for friends & family recommendations, 26% for previous experience and only 12% for holiday catalogues).

Bon voyage to all our families!
