5 Ways to Survive a Family Day Out
Ah yes. The family day out.
We've all got fond memories from our childhood of trips to the zoo or the seaside with our families. Sand in your eyes, manky ham sandwiches, being beaten in the back of the car by your big brother... good times!
But now that we are all grown adults, it's only fair that we offer our own children the same memorable experiences! In all seriousness, family trips can be so much fun and a great way to bond. The key is in the preparation and the organisation, to make sure the family day out goes as smoothly as possible, ensuring it's lots of fun for everyone involved. Here are our Top 5 Tips for Surviving a Family Day Out:
1. Plan Ahead
Decide where it is you are going to go and from there, do as much research as you can to ensure the day goes smoothly. Check opening times of parks, adventure centres, museums... wherever your destination, make sure you know what time it's open to avoid disappointment. Check out local family friendly restaurants and book ahead to get the best value for money. You should also make a list of everything you’ll need for the trip and start to gather everything well in advance so there is no last minute rushing around.
2. In Car Entertainment
There's nothing worse than hearing rounds of "Are we there yet?" from the back seat. Bored kids will lead to an unpleasant car trip for all involved. Keep them entertained with lots of fun sing-a-long music, maybe a couple of audiobooks, some sticker books or colouring books can also be handy.
3. Snacks, Snacks, Snacks
Pack your car full of easy to reach snackable food! Pre-chopped fruit in resealable plastic bags, rice cakes, crackers, veggie sticks... these all work really well for handy car snacks. For a more substantial family day out meal, why not pack a picnic? Make the most of your boot and pack it with a picnic hamper. You can buy some gorgeous hampers these days with areas for keeping drinks cool and fruit fresh. No more manky ham sandwiches in tinfoil!
4. Use the Sat Nav
Take the stress out of navigation and use a sat nav if you're exploring new territory. The last thing you need is a full blown argument about directions. Spend less time arguing and getting lost, more time exploring and having fun!
5. Comfort is Key
One of the most important parts of a family day out is that you arrive safely and comfortably. A nice spacious, comfortable car makes all the difference when traveling with the family. Thinking of upgrading your wagon wheels?
