5 Exciting Events To Enjoy With The Family

The bank holidays are coming thick and fast at this time of year, but in between, there’s lots to enjoy too. Make the most of the longer days and (hopefully) better weather and get out with the family at the weekend.

Here are a few events to keep you entertained this May:

National Drawing Day

Venue: National Museum of Ireland, Dublin
Date: May 19th
Cost: Free
Contact: museum.ie / 353-1-6486 332

Award-winning children’s illustrator Mark Wickham will be at the National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street, Dublin 2, between 11am and noon (6 to 10-year-olds) and 2pm and 3pm (11 to 16-year-olds) to celebrate National Drawing Day by storyboarding how the Ardagh Chalice was found. The chalice was among a hoard of treasures stolen by Vikings and rediscovered 150 years ago by a boy digging potatoes. Alternatively, you can drop into the museum at Collins Barracks to help create a large-scale tapestry drawing inspired by tales from the museum’s collection.

Summer Fair & Dog Show at the Donkey Sanctuary

Cost: €2 per car
Contact: www.thedonkeysanctuary.ie / 022-48398

The Donkey Sanctuary is always worth a visit, but it’s even more enticing when the Summer Fair and Dog Show is on. Meet all the wonderful donkeys and, weather permitting, enjoy refreshments, a dog show, bouncy castle, music, and lots more entertainment. The show will take place from 12-4pm.
