4 Fantastic Festivals The Entire Family Will Love

If you thought having small children meant missing all the fun of summer festivals, think again.  Here are some of the fantastic festivals happening this summer that the whole family can enjoy.  So, dust off the ‘Witness 2000’ t-shirt, pack the baby wipes and get ready to party…

1. Vantastival, Co. Louth

Vantastival takes place in the grounds of beautiful Beaulieu House, Drogheda on June 3rd and 4th.  A host of live musical acts will perform over the weekend, while a focus on the campervan lifestyle brings an extra dimension to the only festival of its kind in Ireland. Vantastival has something for everyone, with or without a campervan!  The family camping area is quiet at night time and the amenities tent has electric sockets, a microwave and kettle.  There is an Alice in Wonderland-themed kids' camp, located in the stunning walled garden. Scheduled kids' activities run from 10.30am to 6 pm each day - with storytelling, circus skills workshops, music workshops, arts and crafts, laughter yoga, games, bouncy castles, face-painting and much more going on.  And with a lineup that includes The Riptide Movement and Kíla, gourmet food trucks and a lively bar tent with a stream of comedians, you’ll be kept happy too!

2. Body&Soul, Co. Westmeath

On the Summer Solstice Weekend, June 23-25th the Body&Soul Festival takes place at Ballinlough Castle, Clonmellon, Co. Westmeath. The festival has sold out over the last seven years and has seen much critical success.  Festival organisers have planned a really special family programme this year. Soul Kids is the ultimate playground for little imaginations with spectacular acts, performances, creative workshops and adventures in the forest, lakeside, walled gardens and hidden pathways.

This year the festival also has a brand new family campsite positioned right beside the family car park with its own entrance. It has the ‘Soul Kids Tent’ which opens early in the morning for yoga and workshops and in the evening for storytelling and hot water-bottle filling. For practical family needs the campsite also features dedicated family toilets and changing areas, security and a Family HQ Info point, and is in very close proximity to a water supply, hot showers and family friendly traders. A weekend they (and you) will never forget…

3. The Sunrise Children’s Festival, Co. Galway

If you’d rather a festival that is solely dedicated to families, look no further than The Sunrise Children's Festival in Brigit’s Gardens, Galway on July 19th and 30th.  This is a unique weekend festival with free camping on Saturday night. 'Sunrise' is a celebration of music, creativity, nature and all things magical in these beautiful Celtic gardens and surrounding woodlands. Expect live music, theatre, puppet shows, a fire spectacular, yoga and lots more. There will be lovely artisan food and a bar too, so parents need not feel neglected. This is a great opportunity to spend time together as a family, in a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere.

4. Groove, Co. Wicklow

Last but not least, Groove takes place in Kilruddery House on August 19th and 20th. There is no camping, which is possibly a bonus for some families! What there is though, is an action packed programme of events each day, with something for everyone in the plan. The Family Zone has a full schedule of shows, arts and crafts and face painting.  A Toddler Zone gives a safe place for little ones to wobble around.  Older children will love the outdoor activities. There are giant inflatable Zorbs on the lake, a sky-high climbing wall ready to be scaled, and bows and arrows in the Archery zone.  Adults will have to make do with over 25 fantastic music acts over two stages, pop-up restaurants, food trucks and a health and wellness precinct. The sacrifices we make for our children…

Four fantastic weekends, four family festivals that you and your children will remember forever.  Just make sure to get them a t-shirt. It’s never too early to start that collection!
