Is It Possible To Have A Relaxing Holiday With Children?

Summer holiday season is well and truly upon us. There's nothing like a well-deserved week or two away from reality to reboot the energy levels.

Whether that's some sun in the Algarve, some family fun exploring Ireland's Lakelands, or spending some magical time together in Disney, the most important thing is to relax and enjoy yourselves.

Speaking of relaxing, how can you ensure a relaxing holiday with the kids in tow? It may seem like time away with children would be anything but relaxing, so we asked our lovely eumom family on Facebook for their thoughts on the matter.

While a completely relaxed and stress-free holiday might not be totally possible, a fun and chilled out one, however, might be doable. So if you are planning a holiday, at home or abroad, by plane or by car, here are some practical, tried and tested tips from our expert moms:

A portable DVD player or a tablet filled with the kids favourite cartoons, movies and games is a great option to keep little ones entertained during the journey. Nursery rhymes and story books are also a big hit with the young ones. And of course, don’t forget to pack some snacks for the road and your child's favourite teddy for cuddles.

Before you decide where to go, read up reviews of hotels and local restaurants to make sure they are child-friendly. And don’t forget to check if they are also buggy friendly – very important when pushing the little ones around. Check out for fun things to do in the area. Even though you might want to stick to the routine as much as you can, make sure that every day is fully filled with new and interesting activities to do and places to go.

If you are planning a holiday abroad, a popular option between our moms are the campsites around Europe – and France being the most popular destination.

But if you are not travelling by car and not planning on renting one, it is important to stay somewhere with easy access and different options of public transport to get around. Keep an eye for hotels that offer free shuttle services for their guests as well. Staying local or going abroad, the most popular option of accommodation is definitely the one that offers entertainment for the whole family.

Kids club and swimming pool are a must when going on holidays with children, and having a holiday cottage rather than a family room can give you more space and freedom if you are travelling with a baby or a toddler.
