Irene is a humanistic counsellor and CEO of Nurture, an Irish-registered nationwide charity offering counselling and supports to women, partners and families in Ireland. Nurture was established in Ireland early 2011. Nurture offers affordable, accessible counselling and supports surrounding post-natal depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, miscarriage, loss of a baby, infertility difficulties and much more. Nurture has A ‘No Wait List ‘policy.

Irene’s professional background is diverse. She worked in sales and marketing for 15 years before training as a humanistic counsellor and establishing her own counselling practice in 2008 in Rush, County Dublin. Nurture is the only charity in Ireland today offering such timely supports. In 2015 Irene successfully won Social Entrepreneurs Ireland award. This award is extremely prestigious and very beneficial to Nurture and offers sustainability to the charity. Irene provides in house training for the Nurture counsellors in the area of post-natal depression and traumatic birth PTSD.

Over 42,000 women will be diagnosed with maternal mental illnesses in Ireland annually. Nurture has over 27 accredited counsellors working with the charity in most counties throughout Ireland. Nurture’s HQ is in Skerries, North Co. Dublin and they provide a walk in support service and one to one affordable counselling. Nurture also provides support groups for women and their babies for post-natal depression, grief, traumatic birth and more on a nationwide basis. This area of women’s maternal mental health is hugely stigmatised Nurture’s work is to educate society to create societal change over time so maternal mental health is no longer a taboo. Nurture’s message is ‘It really is okay to talk about it’
