5 Reasons Parents Love Dublin Airport
is a great airport to travel to or from or even transit through with the kids... and here are five reasons why!
Given the choice of airports to transit through, smaller airports like Dublin win hands down. Rather than a sprawling, 5 terminal maze, Dublin airport is small enough to make it very manageable, and big enough to provide top services. The DAA are in-tune with their passenger demographics and are working hard to implement services which allow for a more comfortable transit through the airport.
2. Families First
There is a “family lane” through Departures wide enough to fit a buggy, which allows you and your family a bit of space away from the madness of the security queues. Effectively like your own Fastrack channel, look out for the small signs with a picture of a buggy on them.
3. Free Strollers
The DAA (in conjunction with The Stork Exchange are providing courtesy strollers for passengers to use, which allows parents to check their own pram in, and pick up a stroller once you get through security to use all the way to your gate. (This is currently available in Terminal 1). The strollers are top of the range Maclaren’s, they are suitable from birth, clean and safety checked and ready for you to use.
4. Help is at Hand
Furthermore, the DAA offer concierge services, ideal for those traveling alone with children who need an extra pair of hands to get through the airport. It works both ways – you can be met at the air bridge on arrival, or at Departures and helped with whatever you need. A lot of our Stork Exchange customers would use this service if they are traveling with kids on their own. (FYI, this service is also available for elderly or infirmed who might need help or the use of a wheelchair.) See dublinairport.com for details.
5. Play Areas
There are soft play areas in both terminals. Cleverly situated beside cafes / restaurants and toilets, they are very handy for parents to grab a coffee while the kids burn off some energy before or after a flight. In terminal 1 there is a soft play area beside McDonalds (landside, before security) and there is a small selection of toys in the seating area beside Starbucks. In terminal 2 the play area is upstairs, beside Burger King.
