10 Amazing Snack Ideas For Baby Led Feeding

Thinking of baby led feeding? Aileen Cox Blundell of babyledfeeding.com gives her advice.

Each week I get asked what are my favourite snacks for baby led weaning, so I have compiled my list of favourite foods for your little one. Remember that babies need 3 meals per day and 2 snacks.

It is important to ensure that they eat an adequate amount of iron rich foods as growing toddlers need nearly 4 times the amount of iron than grownups require.

1. Greek Yoghurt & Berries

This snack can be served as is for babies who can use spoons or on pre-loaded spoons for babies who can’t manage spoons yet. Greek yoghurt contains all kinds of good nutrients. Greek yoghurt contains plenty of essential vitamins and minerals for your growing baby. And, berries are wonderful super foods that will help protect your baby’s immune system.

2. Pancakes

There are numerous variations of pancakes out there. I have plenty of my own on my site. One of my favourite recipes of pancakes are my ‘Butternut Squash and Goats Cheese Pancakes’. They’re super nutritious, loaded with plenty of fibre, vitamins and minerals. These pancakes are small enough for your baby to hold and eat themselves too.

3. Banana Spears

This snack is super quick and easy to serve your baby. Just take a ripe banana and cut them into banana spears. Banana spears are easy for little hands to manage and are perfect for baby led weaning. Bananas are full of potassium and iron too which are essential for babies.

4. Goat Cheese & Oat Crackers

This snack is delicious and oat crackers are perfect for tiny hands to pick up. And, goat cheese is one of the best cheeses out there for little ones because of its low salt content.

5. Healthy Cookies

Healthy cookies are a great sweet snack for babies. They can be made to be extra nutritious and super healthy for babies. I have made numerous healthy cookie recipes that are on my site. One of my all time favourite healthy cookie recipes is my ‘Healthy Coconut and Oat Choccy Cookies’. These natural treats are easy to manage for little babies because of how soft they turn out.

6. Toast Soldiers

This snack is another super quick snack for your baby that takes seconds to make. Take a piece of healthy brown bread, like my Granny’s 10 minute Brown Bread, and toast it. Cut it into the shape of a soldier. It’s a fun and healthy snack your baby will love.

7. Hummus & Oat Crackers

Hummus is a very tasty snack and full of protein and minerals that babies will love. I have a ‘Hummus 4 Ways’ recipe on my site. I have a basic, grilled red pepper, beetroot and spinach hummus that have added nutrients on top of the basic hummus one. Babies would love dipping oat crackers all on their own and growing as independent eaters.

8. Savoury Mini Muffins

Mini muffins are a wonderful snack for baby led weaning. They’re small enough for a baby’s hand to manage and soft enough for them to eat. There are a lot of variations of muffins out there. Believe me, there are so many different kinds on my site. One of my go-to super healthy baby muffins I make are my ‘Spinach, Goat Cheese and Thyme Muffins’. These muffins are savoury and delicious.

9. Hard Boiled Egg

Hard boiled eggs are a terrific snack choice for your baby. The eggs take just a few minutes to make and are easy to incorporate into a baby led weaning regime. After peeling, hard boiled eggs are soft and easy to manage for little hands. They’re packed with protein and vitamins.

10. Organic Unsalted Mini Rice Cakes & Goat Cheese

This snack consists of super nutritious organic unsalted mini rice cakes which contain necessary vitamins for a growing baby. The goat cheese is a perfect spread to serve your baby on their rice cakes due to its low salt content.
