Baby’s Development – Week 50
How is your baby developing in week 50?
If you don’t yet have a bedtime routine, now is a great time to start. Gradually slowing down the gears for your baby each evening will ease him into relaxation. So lower the lighting, lower your voice and read him a book in a soothing voice to get him ready for sleeptime.
Learning to talk
One of the sweetest milestones is hearing your little baby utter his first words. Encourage your child to talk by naming people or things you see in a slow, clear voice.
Avoiding unpasteurised dairy
Unpasteurised and soft cheese, such as brie and cream cheese should be avoided as they may contain harmful bacteria that could cause illness.
Dry skin in babies
Babies often have dry skin as their oil-secreting glands aren’t fully developed, and so the natural water in their skin dries out more quickly. Emollient creams whisked up in the bath water help to restore moisture to the skin. Ask your public health nurse or pharmacist about special children’s formulations to use during the day.
