Baby’s Development – Week 42
Busy takes on a new meaning this month as you race around after your little one. Turn your back for a second and he’s headed for the stairs, emptying your cupboards or just about to put a shiny new coin in his mouth. This month, he could start to take his first wobbly steps.
Limiting salt intake
Avoid salty foods such as gravy, stock cubes and processed meat such as ham, bacon and sausages. Limiting early salt intake can help prevent high blood pressure and heart disease in later life.
Music and singing
Music and singing offers your baby so many different benefits – from helping to develop speech, to helping with sensory coordination and memory. Music also helps you and your baby to relax and dancing and singing with your baby on your hip is one of the sweetest ways to bond.
Heat rash in babies
As babies have no means of controlling their body temperature due to underdeveloped sweat glands, they can easily overheat. Wearing too many clothes or using too much bedding on during sleep time can cause overheating. It also tends to happen in very hot weather. A heat rash of small, reddish, pinhead-sized spots can then develop. This will settle as soon as the skin is allowed to cool down properly. Recent research has shown that when babies overheat, the risk of cot death is increased, so it’s important to keep an eye on your baby’s temperature.
