Best 5 Tips For Treating Nappy Rash

From the moment your little munchkin arrived on this earth, it seems that your world suddenly revolves around feeding and nappy changing! Constantly checking to see if they're wet or examining the contents of the nappy, ever surprised by the changing colours, becomes pretty common. Weird, right? It’s perhaps safe to say that you never thought you'd spend so much of your time thinking about poop and pee!
You also may have never expected to see your little one's bum get red and irritated from time to time. This angry and sore looking irritation is called nappy rash. It's caused by a number of factors, but most commonly when a baby's skin becomes inflamed after contact with chemicals in urine and faeces, which can irritate the skin. Some little bums are more sensitive than others, and you may find your baby suffers from nappy rash more frequently than expected. To protect your baby's bum from nappy rash, or to treat the symptoms, follow these steps:

1. Be Careful While Cleansing

It's really important to select skin cleansing and care products which have been adapted to baby's fragile skin. Look out for products that are Paraben-Free as they'll be more suitable for your little one's sensitive skin. Try La Roche-Posay Lipikar Cleansing Oil or La Roche-Posay Lipikar Syndet which are both perfect for bath time.

2. Dry Gently

After delicately washing your baby's skin, make sure you dry your little one thoroughly, but very gently, checking that every crease and crevice are bone dry. When drying, do so with a clean towel and without rubbing - just pat gently.

3. Smell Check!

Beware of dirty nappies! Regular smell checks and frequently changed nappies are your best bet. If your baby's bum is left to sit in a dirty or wet nappy, the prolonged contact with stools and urine could worsen or trigger nappy rash.

4. The Right Nappy

Selecting the right nappy for your little one can make a huge difference. Choose the most absorbent nappy that insulates the skin as much as possible against humidity is best. Select the correct size to avoid rubbing or chafing.

5. Soothe The Irritation

Every time you change your baby, apply a soothing cream, such as La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, a soothing repairing balm.
