4 Ways To Bond With Your Baby
1. Take a bath together
Bathing with your baby is a great way to initiate the skin-to-skin contact that is so important for your baby. That skin-to-skin contact, plus the combination of warm water, can be especially effective at soothing your baby when she is fussy. But take care to not use water that is too hot. Your baby’s bath water should be a much lower temperature than what you use for yourself.
2. Massage your baby
Massage is an excellent way to calm and soothe your baby, and to strengthen the connection between the two of you. Use oil as part of your massage routine for an even more soothing experience. Massage is calming on the nervous system and is excellent for colic and sleep. Massaging raises levels of the ‘feel-good’ hormone oxytocin in both you and your baby, helping you both feel calmer and relaxed.
3. Read and sing to your baby
Your baby may not be able to understand the words to your stories or songs just yet, but hearing the gentle lilt of your voice, and watching your face, will go a long way in helping your newborn connect with and bond to you.
4. Take baby for a walk
Weather permitting, getting outside for a stroll with baby will do you both the world of good. The fresh air will be great for both of you, and as exercise is a stress buster, it will do wonders for your over all health, including your mental health. Don’t be afraid of talking to your baby, pointing out the world around them. Getting into this habit now will ensure that as your baby grows, they will learn the names for common objects and sights as soon as they’re able.
