9 Ingenious Life Hacks For Weaning On The Go

It’s a messy business, but with a few tips and tricks up your sleeve, weaning on the go should be a fun and stress-free experience – for both you and baby.

Life Hacks For Weaning On The Go

1. Buy pre-cut packets of fruit and veg when doing your supermarket shop. These are great for throwing in your bag on last minute outings (cooked when appropriate).

2. Look out for no salt cereals in shops. They are perfect for popping in a tub and taking out with you.

3. Use leftover porridge up by making porridge fingers. Simply bake the porridge in a tray and cut into handy sized chucks that your baby can chomp on when you’re both on the go.

4. Annabel Karmel’s award-winning masher is ideal for creating quick meals when you’re at a cafe or restaurant, or any time you’re caught off guard by a hungry baby!

5. Fresh filled pasta can be cooked up in 3 minutes, popped into a container, and whoosh – you’re out the door!

6. Share your own food – minus the salt of course! We all know that little ones find our food more interesting than their own – so keep an eye out for opportunities to share (just hide the doughnuts!).  Or don’t be afraid to freeze leftovers using ice cube trays.

More Finger Food Ideas

  • Small pieces of lightly toasted bread or bagels (spread with vegetable purée for extra vitamins).
  • Small chunks of banana or other very ripe, peeled and pitted fruit, like mango, plum, pear, peach, cantaloupe, or seedless watermelon, well-cooked pasta spirals, cut into pieces.
  • Small, well-cooked broccoli or cauliflower ‘trees.’
  • Pea-sized pieces of cooked chicken, ground beef or turkey, or other soft meat.
  • Homemade ice-pops. Homemade Ice Pops are a great way of soothing sore gums and they are ideal for making fresh fruit lollies from pureed fresh fruit or pure fruit juice.

Note: All weaning foods should be age and baby appropriate. Only you know your own baby’s stage!
