Hi girls,

Thought I'd start this thread off as I'm already needing advice!! Thanks for the advice on the tommee tippee bottles ashbumpy, I really must invest in some today to see if they help my DD out. Poor little one is awfully sore with trapped wind, and I think it's down to the bottles to be honest. Will buy them when I go out shortly and let you know how I go!

Good Morning ladies,

Feel very proud to get through our first night at home as a family. She was very good slept for 4 hrs between bottles. I find with the tommee tippe bottles that she has less more wind than in the hospital. She seems quiet content. Asleep for now Just waiting for health nurse to arrive.

Hi girls,

ash tried the bottles and DD got really upset. Ended up changing mid bottle as she got hysterical. Was worth a try. Might try a different formula, as I'm using aptimil at the moment. Saw on the birth club that one of the other girls was recommended to use cow & gate, so might give that a go.

Button, good on ya! Sounds like you are settling into things nicely :) Sleeping for 4 hours between bottles is really great. How did it go with the PHN?

Talking of PHN, Ash good luck tomorrow. Be honest, at the end of the day they are there to help.

Hi girls,
Majella, sounds like your little Roisin is doing great! I used SMA with my DS and found it great, had to change to comfort when he got colic, but while he was on the SMA he thrived. Roisin is putting weight on great for you isn't she? You must be delighted?
Fitzer, am dieing to hear your birth story now ;) Hope you are ok after it though?
Ash, how did last night go? And was the PHN any help today? Really hope she was.

So, last night we started using Dr Brown bottles. So far, so good. Very little wind, and my DD drinks the bottles in about half an hour! Also, not sure if it's coincidence or not, but she had a great sleep last night. We'd to wake her for her second feed, as she drank 4 ounces each from her previous 2 bottles !! Fingers crossed they continue to work for us.

Fitzer, now i'm intrigued! Can't wait to hear your birth story!

Girls, I need a bit of advice. I'm BF at the mo but i'm going to start the weaning process as I have mastitis and i'm exhausted. I've read up on it on a few different site but am still a bit all over the place. From what I can grasp you introduce a bottle during the for a week, then a second for a few days, then a third and fourth. Is this right? I have some pre-made bottles that we bought in the hospital. I don't know whether to use them or get some formula and use that? If so, how many ozs should she be taking? She's 10 days old today!

hi girls,
think I posted too soon, my poor DD seems to have wind again! For some reason the milk seems to flow too fast from the Dr Brown's bottles. In saying that I'm reluctant to change bottles again. I'm thinking it must be the formula. I saw one of the other girls changed from aptimil to cow and gate. I wonder if that's still working out for her baby?

sorry, meant to say lotty I've never breast fed either so I can't help you with the weaning from breast to bottle. I know m DD is 2 weeks old and drinks anything from 2 to 4 ounce bottles depending on the wind!

Mercury that was me who changed to c&g & he loves it! Doesn't seem as windy but then only changed him yest eve & using the Infacol at the same time. He seems to enjoy his bottles more tho. Why don't you try getting the little handy cartons 1st &try them instead of getting the big jar of powder. I know tey bit more expesive but less waste if it doesn't work out. They are the same stuff u get in the hospital as well just have a little preservative added to keep longer than the 24hrs.

Do any of the rest of ye make up bottles as u need them? phn recomended this but we were told in the hospital that it was ok to make up 6 at a time?

I've started taking the nite feeds upstairs now i8n the cooler bag with ice pack in instead of getting up in the middle of the nite to go downstairs. Have the bottle warmer beside the bed too so handy.

I have the cartons premade beside the bed, too lazy for powder ha! Ugh ryan hs projectile vomiting up all his bottles all day, I dont know what to do, if i should go to the doctors or if its just one of those things, any ideas?

that's a really good idea to try a carton of the cow and gate stuff sasha - thanks! It's amazing how tiredness makes you not think of the simplest of things!! I must pick one up from the shop and see what DD thinks.
About the feeds, I know they gave me a leaflet on how to make up bottles in the hospital which recommended making one at a time or making up a few and storing them in the fridge. But with my DS (who's only 2) they said you could put the cooled boiled water into the bottles and let them cool down and add the formula when needed. Also, they told me that you just need to take the chill off the bottle, that room temperature is ok to give the bottle to the baby at (like in the hospital). So that's what I've been doing with my DD's bottles. Also, to be honest girls, I started heating my DS's bottles last time after a few weeks and it was the worst thing I ever did. It got to the stage where he wouldn't take the milk once it started cooling down, so if I spent a while winding him, he wouldn't take the rest of his feed. And I'm convinced it gave him the worst colic ever. It only developed after I started heating the bottles. Also, it was a lot of hassle when out and about, trying to get the bottle to the right temperature.
Gwy, God your poor little fella must be miserable today, and you too. It's awful stressful when they throw up one feed, let alone a couple of feeds. Does Ryan have trapped wind? If it persists it might be worth checking out if he has reflux? If you are worried I'd ring the PHN or the doctor. As long as he is still having wet nappies he is not dehydrated, but if he's still throwing up I'd check out the reflux with the doctor.

hi,

was at the shop and picked up two TT bottles to try. I have 3 of the Avent ones made up so im gonna try them later. Hope they make him burp easier.

I make up a few at a time and store them in the fridge. I just heat them for 20 seconds in the microwave and give a really big shake when done. They arent really warm but just takes the chill off them.

that's great news gwy. A bit less of a worry if he's keeping fluids down for you. Maybe the formula doesn't agree with him so?
ash, sorry to hear the PHN was useless. I know some of the girls have great ones, but I've never found any of the ones I've had that great really. I suppose they are only trying to help, but someimes it doesn't feel that way!
Just finished feeing my DD there. My DH had to take over as she was crying sohard I couldn't make myself do it. Halfway through the bottles sh seems to change the watshe sucks and the wind and crying stops. I suppose I'll keep going with these bottles and see if she learns how to drink from them.

sprog I wouldnt worry, ryan has been in the bed loads, even though i swore i wouldnt do it, but as you say anything for a few hours shut eye ha!
He def has an upset stomach, his tummy is rumbling ang gurgling and lets just say you could bottle his farts and sell them as stink bombs...gross! So smally for such a small little man!! Im not sure if its the formula cuz he was going great on it until now, hopefully its just a 24 hour thing, he has had 2 more 4ox bottles of water and its staying down so as long as he is keeping fluids down ill give it the night and see how he goes, he isnt crying or upset or anything tho, i keep blaming myself thinking i must have done something wrong, i feel so sorry for him, he's so small and i dont really know what to do....cue the tears, for me! anything sets me off these days!!
